Protecting Those Who Care for Others

USI's Senior Living Practice delivers unique risk financing solutions to meet our clients' business objectives. Our solutions offer a range of outcomes from reducing insurance costs to maximize dollars available for patient care and staff retention as well as addressing future liabilities, acquiring new buildings and beyond. Clients include owners, operators, and investors around the country.

With decades of commitment to the senior living industry, USI's team of industry veterans brings a wealth of risk management solutions providing significant economic impact while addressing current and emerging senior living industry issues. We have access to both traditional and nontraditional risk transfer solutions, all while meeting lender requirements and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Case Studies:

Alternative Risk Financing such as Captives:

As long-term care organizations grow, they need more sophisticated ways to finance their risks and re-allocate capital to other areas of the business once claims are controlled.  Our team has helped multiple clients establish captives for their GL/PL insurance needs.  Many of these clients now have multi-million dollar captive surplus funds to deploy elsewhere in the organization.

Mid-size Ownership Groups Need Help Understanding, Closing and Reducing Claims:

When working with a new client, our claims advocacy team inherited 39 open claims totaling a little over $1mm in reserves which left unchecked could have cost the client $1.5mm in the coming years.  Over 18 months and 4 claims reviews, USI’s claims advocate was able to achieve closure and reserve reductions of over $440,000, correlating to over $660,000 in future cost savings to the client.

Our Clients Move Quickly to Acquire, Manage and Operate New Buildings:

Recently our team helped a large and distressed, 500+ bed skilled nursing building implement cost-effective insurance solutions across multiple lines in a short time frame.  Options were ready in two weeks with A-rated carriers as well as options to implement risk control.  The various policies offered a combination of lower deductibles, direct cost savings, risk management tools, and greater policy certainty than the current policies in place for the building all while offering the ability to meet HUD requirements as needed.
